It was a great weekend for Coast Baseball Academy, highlighted by Christian Holm's bases loaded walk-off triple to propel our 13/14u team to a 3-0 record.

Our entire organization did a great job of competing and battling each and every pitch, and I was extremely pleased with the defensive improvements made by our younger teams. While more overall improvement is needed, this was a huge step in the right direction. Moreover, all of our teams carried their success into the practices this week which have all been very productive. We spent a considerable amount of time, particularly with our younger teams, on improving our overall defense with particular emphasis on shutting down the run game. Though our 8/9u and 11/12u teams are still looking for their first win, we are just a few defensive plays away from coming out on top.

GAME OF THE WEEK ~ Christian Holm hits walk-off triple, Coast Baseball 13/14u wins third straight.

Coast Baseball 13/14u secures its third straight victory Sunday afternoon in walk-off fashion, beating the Capo Cats 8-7. Enzo Sanchez had another quality start, tossing another four quality innings. Though we were not atop our game from a defensive standpoint, we used quality at-bats by Tari Farman, Adam Kerfoot, Enzo Sanchez and Christian Holm to get a victory in the last inning and remain undefeated in league play. At this age, playing flawless baseball each week is tough. What separates great teams from good teams is the ability to win ballgames even when not delivering a peak performance. That is exactly what we did. I was very impressed with our quality at-bats and tenaciousness late in the ball game that put us in position to secure the walk-off victory.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK ~ Christian Holm 2-3, 3B, 3 RBI.

Christian Holm closes out Coast Baseball's weekend with a walk-off base-clearing triple against the Capo Cats Sunday afternoon at Alta Laguna Park. Christian has done an outstanding job at the plate for us this year, using a selective yet aggressive approach that allows him to get in good hitters' counts. By laying of balls early in the count, he forces the pitcher to work the heart of the plate. During the last inning on Sunday, the Cats' pitcher was struggling to find the strike zone and walked the bases loaded. Christian got ahead of the count 1-0 before getting a fastball belt high down the middle which he proceeded to drive over the center fielder's head.
